Summer Programming
Social Communication Groups
We are again offering ‘Social Communication Groups’. This program is designed to increase interaction and focus on developing social communication by teaching skills that will enhance the child’s ability to work and socialize successfully with their peers.
Articulation and Language Groups
The ‘articulation groups’ will focus on developing sounds that are produced in error through strategies that facilitate awareness and production.
The ‘language groups’ target development of age-appropriate vocabulary and improvement in overall expressive and receptive language skills.
These groups will allow participants to work on emerging skills in a small group format to facilitate carryover and consistency. Age and skill level is considered when assigning children to groups of three or four. These groups are hour-long sessions at $30/hr or we are offering a ‘package’ rate of $175.00 for the 7-week session if payment is made up front.
Group sessions will begin June 21st and will be offered at all three offices, at specific times during the week/day (both yet to be determined).
Importance of not missing sessions:
Consistent attendance in speech/language therapy sessions allows routine practice of communication skills, as well as faster progress toward therapy goals. When children do not have consistent attendance, their progress slows, and they are more likely to regress during these periods of time when they are not receiving services. When a child regresses or loses ground, the SLP must spend important therapy time re-teaching previously taught skills instead of moving forward with a new lesson. Slowed progression or regression may result in a longer duration of speech/language therapy. That is, the child who frequently misses sessions may end up needing speech/language therapy for a longer amount of time. It is very important not to miss scheduled therapy sessions in order to support improvement of communication skills.
